The Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, is hosting its 64th Ordinary Session of Heads of State and Government in Abuja, Nigeria.
The event, which will be led by Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, will be attended by 15 Heads of State and Government.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), nations such as Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone have already arrived at the site, which is located in the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Benin, Gambia, Togo, Cape Verde, and Senegal are among the other countries represented.
The conference is also attended by the ECOWAS Commission and other stakeholders such as former President Goodluck Jonathan, the United States’ Lead Diplomat for Africa, Molly Phee, the African Union (AU), and the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel, Leonardo Simao.
The end-of-year conference is anticipated to go over different decisions and agreements taken and launched by the group, including the adoption of the ECO as the region’s shared currency.
The regional group would also discuss on the coups in Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Guinea during this summit.
Climate change, democracy, bilateral partnerships, and the African Continental Free Trade Agreement are other challenges.
