The governors of Bayelsa State, Governor Douye Diri, and Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, have said that they are willing to cooperate in order to find a peaceful resolution to legal disputes involving property jointly owned by the two states.

Fubara visited Diri on Wednesday for the New Year at his country house in Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, he expressed his wish for mutual collaboration.

Governor Fubara travelled with a few of Rivers State’s most influential figures.

He stated the purpose of his visit with certain state leaders was to emphasise the significance of the unification summit, which he believes will usher in a new era of relations between the two states.

A statement issued by Boniface Onyedi, the governor of Rivers state’s senior special adviser on media, stated that Fubara’s alliance will resolve any disputes over administrative boundaries between the two states.

According to him:

“The purpose of my presence today is not a mere visit, but a reunification meeting. Our visit is to let our brother know that we want to work together for a common purpose and the development of both States.”

“We have a lot of things in Rivers State that are jointly owned by both states. I know we have not had this kind of meeting before, but we desire that from this particular moment, whatever the issues are, let us look for a way to settle them amicably so that we can forge ahead.”

“I have always said that we cannot attain development in the face of crisis. We can not help one another in a situation of anarchy. Peace is the major ingredient for development.”
