Hon Wasiu Isiaka, the Ogun State Commissioner for Sports, has condemned vandalism and other criminal actions in and around Ogun State’s four main stadiums.
There are four stadiums: MKO International Stadium, Sagamu International Stadium, Dipo Dina International Stadium in Ijebu-Ode, and The International Stadium in Ilaro.
Isiaka remarked that if these heinous practices were not stopped, they would limit community engagement in sports, raise insecurity, and stymie athletic growth.
According to a statement issued on Saturday, the commissioner announced this during the Yewa Traditional Council Meeting, which was held in Ilaro, the headquarters of Yewa South Local Government.
Isiaka, who decried the high incidence of vandalism at the Gateway International Stadium in Ilaro, stated that the stadium, which should serve as a hub for athletic events, cultural activities, and community meetings, has been desecrated by the criminal acts of a few individuals.
The vandals’ conduct, according to the commissioner, surely cast a negative light on the senatorial district.
“The impact of these criminal activities goes beyond the physical damage to the stadium. It infringes on the aspirations and dreams of our youth, who are deprived of a safe and suitable environment to engage in sports and recreational activities.
“It also hampers our efforts to attract investment, promote tourism, and foster unity and pride within our state and country at large,” Isiaka said.
