US officials on Sunday said that wintry weather conditions may have contributed to the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Herbert Wigwe, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holding Plc, as well as his wife, son, and other individuals.
Michael Graham, a member of the National Transportation Safety Board, stated during a media conference on Saturday (3 am Nigerian time, Sunday) that officials were present to collect perishable evidence.
Graham said:
“Witness reports of the weather conditions during the accident suggest rain and a wintry mix.
“The helicopter was not equipped with a cockpit voice recorder or a flight data recorder. This helicopter was not required to be equipped with those types of recording devices.”
When asked for any details on the passengers, Graham said that there were none, but that “any names will be released through the coroner’s office” without giving a time date.
Meanwhile, a statement from Access Bank on Sunday verified Wigwe’s and his family members’ deaths.
