On Wednesday, the Senate confirmed the appointments made by President Bola Tinubu to fill the positions of chairman and members of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), commissioners for the National Population Commission (NPC), and director general of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
Following the presentation and deliberation of the recommendations from the Senate Committees on Health, Secondary and Tertiary Education, National Identity Card and Population, and Foreign Affairs, the candidates were confirmed.
Dr. Kelechi Ohiri is the appointee that the Senate confirmed to be the Director General of NHIA.
Malam Jalal Arabi, who will serve as chairman of the NAHCON, Prof. Abubakar Yagawal, Commissioner for Planning and Research, Prince Anofiu Elegushi, Commissioner for Operations, and Aliu AbdulRazak, Commissioner for Policy, Personnel, and Finance, are among the other confirmed nominees.
The Senate had split into the Committee of the Whole in order to evaluate the recommendations of each committee independently before their selections were confirmed.
Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, praised the committees for their meticulous work in vetting each nominee and presenting their reports in his final comments.
In addition, he congratulated the candidates on their appointments and urged them to uphold their appointments by carefully carrying out their responsibilities.
