The House of Representatives has passed a bill for an Act to increase the wages, allowances, and fringe benefits of judicial office holders in the country, with the Chief Justice of Nigeria receiving a total monthly package of N5.39 million.
In the executive bill brought to the Green Chamber on Tuesday by President Bola Tinubu, other Supreme Court judges would get a total package of N4.21 million, while the President of the Court of Appeal will earn a total monthly package of N4.48 million.
Similarly, the House also approved other job regular allowances that are not embedded in the total monthly package to include leave allowances estacode per night of $2,000 where applicable, duty tour allowances where applicable, severance gratuity of N80, 78m at the completion of a tenure.
There is also an option of a motor vehicle loan due for repayment before the expiration of the tenure of the officer concerned.
In the same way, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, the President of the National Industrial Court, the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, Grand Khadi, the FCT Sharia Court of Appeal, the President of the Customary Court of Appeal, the Chief Judge of the State High Court, Grand Khadi of the State Sharia Court of Appeal, and the President of the State Customary Court of Appeal will receive a total monthly package of N3.53 million. In comparison, the justices of the Court of Appeal will receive a total of N3.73 million each month.
Basic salaries plus all other regular allowances (automotive fuel and maintenance, personal help, entertainment, utilities, security, clothing, journal subscription, medicals, service allowances, restricted or forced lifestyle, dual responsibility, and legal researchers) make up the monthly package.
In a same vein, the House also approved other work regular allowances that are not included in the whole monthly package. These include, among other things, severance gratuities of N80, 78 million at the end of a term, leave allowances estacode per night of $2,000 where appropriate, and duty tour allowances.
There is also an option of an automobile loan that must be repaid before the concerned officer’s term ends.
