The Federal Government on Thursday placed Yahaya Bello, the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, on a watchlist to prevent him from fleeing the nation.
The Nigerian Immigration Service, in a circular dated April 18, 2024, and signed by Assistant Comptroller of Immigration DS Umar for the Comptroller-General, Kemi Nandap, directed the police and the Department of State Services to arrest the former governor.
This comes only hours after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission proclaimed Bello sought in connection with an alleged N80.2 billion money laundering case. The EFCC proclaimed Bello wanted on its official Facebook page after unsuccessful attempts to apprehend him in Abuja on Wednesday.
Also on Thursday, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), and Abdulwahab Mohammed (SAN), Bello, differed on the EFCC’s failed effort to arrest the former governor.
However, the NIS, in a circular addressed to the DSS and the police, specified the former Governor’s name, nationality, and passport number.
