On Thursday, bandits attacked a Zamfara State hamlet, killing 12 residents and seven police officers.
Muhammad Shehu Dalijan, the state’s commissioner of police, confirmed the incident and stated the death occurred in Magarya village in the Zurmi Local Government Area.
He stated that the dead included a member of the Zamfara State Community Guards, also known as Askarawan Zamfara, as well as four local residents.
According to the CP, some 300 bandits assaulted the area on motorcycles, encircled “our men and opened fire on them, thereby killing seven of them and injuring several others.”
He said:
“The bandits were not happy with our men who prevented them from carrying out their heinous act for over two years now.
“Since the deployment of police to the area, the bandits could not have a chance to attack the village.”
The police commissioner stated that extra officers will be dispatched to the area.
