Big Brother Naija star and actress Bisola Aiyeola has opened up about the criticisms she faces over her parenting decisions, particularly her strict rule about phone usage for her daughter.

In the latest episode of Mums Next Door with Maria Chike, Bisola discussed her decision to prevent her daughter from having a phone until she turns 16.

Yes, I have been judged by my parenting skills. So, my daughter turned 15 this year, and she still doesn’t have a phone. I have been pretty strict with that part of her life, and she kind of begged. I told her she wouldn’t have a phone till she was 16, so she still had one more year to go. And people have been asking me, like, what if there is an emergency? Wouldn’t she be behind her pairs and all, but she has a laptop for school work? If her friends need to talk to her, they can call her on Zoom. Sometimes, people feel like I am overdoing it, or I am trying to be overprotective, and I am like, well, that’s your business.”

Bisola revealed that she extended her daughter’s phone restriction after discovering she had opened a smart chat account on her laptop, a move that earned her more time without a phone.

Her approach sparked various reactions online:

– Queen Xee01: “This is me as a mom.”
– Primrose Dodo: “Nice one. I wish I had done that with my kids; they got theirs at 13.”
– Princess Daprada: “That’s also my school of thought; my child won’t have a phone until 17.”
– Stripes And Gold Fabrics: “Just do what you think is good for your child. Nothing like being overprotective.”
– Paul Aeleyi: “As it should. Well done, Bisola, you are a great mum.”
– Pweetie_IK: “You are not being overprotective. It’s needed. She’s all you’ve got.”
– Faith Da Bosslady: “I already said this because social media scares me.”
– Amazing Rikky: “You are not overprotective darling, my eldest child didn’t use a phone till he clocked 18. So his sister won’t use a phone till they clock 18.”

In 2022, Bisola shared the struggles of being a single mother and how her wedding didn’t hold after a marriage proposal. She revealed the challenges of nursing her baby, often feeding her with garri and using her mom’s old scarves as diapers. Bisola also recounted her pre-fame life, highlighting how she relied on neighbors for food.

When her daughter turned 13, Bisola penned a heartwarming note, recounting her birth in 2008 and celebrating the joy of being her mother. Bisola described her daughter as an inspiration and a driving force in her life.
