The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested Garba Musa Kwankwaso, a nephew of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, presidential candidate Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, and the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, Kano State Chapter, for alleged involvement in a drug supply fraud to 44 local government areas.
The agency initially targeted Alhaji Mohammed Kabawa, the Permanent Secretary of the State’s Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, for the claimed multibillion Naira drug supply scheme, before arresting others engaged in the purported transaction.
The panel also detained Abdullahi Bashir, the Chairman of the state chapter of ALGON and the Chairman of Tauroni Local Government Area.
The people involved were accused of conspiring to award the contract to Novomed Pharmaceuticals for the delivery of medications to 38 local government districts in the state, which violated public procurement regulations.
According to the Commission, preliminary investigations found that each of the 38 local governments paid Novomed N9.1 million for drug procurement but did not get the medications.
Musa Garba Kwankwaso, the Managing Director of Novomed and nephew of Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, was also detained.
All of the accused are claimed to be collaborating with the commission’s investigating team.
