Abdul Hakim Awal, a Ghanaian journalist, has set a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest duration of hugging a tree.

GWR confirmed this on its official X on Tuesday.

The GWR captioned his photo, “A 23-year-old journalist, Abdul Hakim Awal, hugged a tree for 24 hours and 21 minutes.”

To accomplish the accomplishment, he had “to remain standing and keep his arms wrapped around the tree throughout the entire duration.”

He also did not get any breaks during the effort.

Speaking about his feat, Awal stated that his objective is to “promote reforestation and nature conservation in Ghana.”

Awal broke the previous 16-hour record set by Ugandan environmental campaigner Faith Ariokot earlier this year.
