The drama between Nigerian footballer Jude Ighalo and his ex-wife Sonia continues to unfold, despite her recent public apology to him.
In a surprising twist, Sonia took to her Instagram story to demand that Ighalo come to collect her bride price, revisiting a long-standing grievance from their past.
Sonia recounted how her father was the sole sponsor of their traditional marriage and expressed frustration over Ighalo’s family’s lack of participation. She criticized them for not attending a farewell party she organized three years ago, which she claimed was wasted as Ighalo’s family did not show up.
Sonia’s Instagram story conveyed her discontent, stating,
Make plans to collect your bride price. Remember when I planned this three or four years ago, but your family did not turn up? After planning a lovely farewell party with lots of food and entertainment, you all wasted my money.”
She further accused Ighalo’s family of disrespecting her father by keeping him and his elders waiting. Sonia demanded that Ighalo’s representatives, including her own father, Sir Clement Ighalo, come to collect the bride price.
Sonia’s call comes shortly after she publicly apologized to Ighalo, acknowledging the challenges of ending their relationship and her struggle to make their marriage work despite their separation. The couple, who married in 2009, had been separated since 2020. Sonia had previously revealed that they reconciled briefly in 2021 before ultimately ending the relationship in 2022.
The couple’s separation has been marked by ongoing social media drama, with Sonia often airing grievances about Ighalo. Last year, she disclosed that their separation occurred in 2019, with their final split in 2022 without Ighalo’s signature. Sonia had accepted Ighalo back into her life due to their children, but their reconciliation was short-lived, primarily due to issues with his family.
