The National Population Commission (NPC) announced that the Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (E-CRVS) system will be implemented at 141 centres across Lagos State.
Mrs Saidat Oladunjoye, Federal Commissioner, NPC, Lagos State, said this at a news conference on the Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (E-CRVS) System on Tuesday.
Oladunjoye stated that the NPC has begun a path toward modernization and efficiency with the implementation of the E-CRVS system in Lagos State and Nigeria in general.
She stated that the program not only marked a big step forward in enhancing residents’ quality of life, but also demonstrated the government’s dedication to openness, accountability, and data-driven decision-making.
She defined civil registration as the cornerstone of every functional society since it provided the legal basis for individuals’ identities and functioned as the first step in gaining access to health care, education, employment, and other social benefits.
She stated that civil registration was intended to ensure that every Nigerian was recognized as a part of society with rights, duties, and access to basic services.
According to her, on August 29, 2023, President Bola Tinubu presented the E-CRVS system, which is wholly funded by UNICEF and powered by Bankforte Technologies, a private technology business.
She said:
“The introduction of the electronic system has simplified the process of registration and further made the process a self-service system. Since the national launch, the E-CRVS System has taken off in Lagos State.
“The NPC office in Lagos State is operating 141 registration centres spread across the LGAs/LCDAs, ensuring that at least there are four centres in each LGA,” the NPC Commissioner added.
