Abia State Governor Alex Otti has signed into law an N750,282,200,000 budget for the fiscal year 2025 which was recently approved by the Abia State House of Assembly.
Governor Otti praised the parliamentarians for expediting the measure’s hearing and passage when he signed the appropriation bill on Friday, stating that the budget will enable his administration to provide higher-quality services.
He applauded the Abia State House of Assembly members for carefully reviewing the 2025 budget before it was signed into law, pointing out that his government had turned around the state’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s dirtiest states as of 2023.
Otti said:
“We can assure you that this government has its eyes on the ball and will continue to do those things we promised our people that will take this state out of poverty, that will take this state out as one of the dirtiest states like it was in 2023.”
He reaffirmed that, in spite of the difficulties posed by increased salaries brought on by the introduction of the new national minimum wage and the monthly payment of pensions, he allocated around 82% of the entire envelope to capital expenditures and 18% to recurring expenses.
According to Governor Otti, some of the projects that began in 2023 will be completed by 2025. In addition to hospitals and schools, these projects include Port Harcourt Road in Aba, Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Abiriba-Ohafia Road, Ohafia-Arochukwu Road to the boundary in Ini, Okobo-Abam Road, the Omenuko Bridge, and Nunya Road.
