Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has acknowledged that Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has played a significant role in United’s struggles to win trophies in recent years.

Following United’s 0-0 draw with City in the Premier League on Sunday, Bruno Fernandes praised De Bruyne for raising the level of competition in the league.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Portuguese midfielder said, “Kevin De Bruyne made the Premier League better.

If Man City are where they are and Manchester United haven’t won as many trophies in this period, it’s also because of Kevin De Bruyne. He deserves all the credit — he’s been fantastic.”

Bruno Fernandes’ comments come shortly after De Bruyne announced his intention to leave Manchester City at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old will depart as a free agent, concluding a decade of success with the reigning Premier League champions under manager Pep Guardiola.

Manchester United and Bruno Fernandes, on the other hand, have not lifted the Premier League title since 2013, when legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson retired.
