Peterside slams Ibas: “You can’t impose riff raffs from Cross River on Rivers State”

Atedo Peterside, President of the ANAP Foundation and founder of IBTC Bank, has openly criticised Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Retd.), the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, over his recent appointments of local government administrators and members of the state electoral commission.

Peterside contends that Ibas, hailing from Cross River State, lacks the mandate to make such decisions in Rivers State, especially during a period of heightened political tension.

In an interview with Arise News, Peterside questioned the legitimacy of Ibas’s appointment process, highlighting that his confirmation by the legislature was conducted via a voice vote, a method he deems insufficient for establishing a two-thirds majority.

He further challenged Ibas to disclose the criteria and procedures used in selecting the new appointees, suggesting that many of them are unqualified and labelling them as “riff raffs.”

Peterside emphasised that the people of Rivers State will not passively accept external interference in their governance.

He urged Ibas to clarify the selection process for these appointments and to respect the autonomy and integrity of Rivers State’s institutions.
