Senator Adams Oshiomhole has openly challenged Arise TV anchor Reuben Abati to a face-to-face confrontation, accusing him of hiding behind television to make inflammatory remarks.
Oshiomhole, a former Edo State Governor and ex-National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed his displeasure over Abati’s critical comments about him on the popular news program.
According to Oshiomhole, Abati had been using his platform to malign and discredit him without offering the opportunity for a balanced discussion. The senator expressed frustration over what he described as biased and unfair media practices.
He called on Abati to take their disagreement to the streets for a direct confrontation rather than making statements from the safety of a studio.
Oshiomhole, who currently represents Edo North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, accused Abati of being a media bully who avoids direct discourse. He claimed that Abati’s criticisms were largely based on misinformation and personal bias. According to Oshiomhole, Abati’s approach does not align with the ethics of journalism, which demands fairness and accuracy.
In his remarks, Oshiomhole said he would prefer to meet Abati in person to discuss the issues rather than endure what he termed as continued public defamation.
He stressed that engaging in a direct and open debate would allow both sides to present their perspectives, instead of one-sided narratives on a media platform.
The former APC chairman maintained that he was not afraid of being challenged or criticised, but he insisted that such criticisms should be grounded in facts and conducted respectfully.
Oshiomhole also questioned Abati’s journalistic integrity, suggesting that the TV host was using his position to advance a personal agenda rather than delivering unbiased news coverage.
Oshiomhole’s outburst has sparked reactions among political observers, with some questioning the appropriateness of his call for a street confrontation. While some have expressed support for Oshiomhole’s desire to confront what he views as media bias, others believe that the senator’s remarks could escalate tensions.
