Dele Momodu claims opposition has outmanoeuvred APC ahead of 2027 elections

Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation Magazine and prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has declared that Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has been caught off guard by the opposition’s strategic moves ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The media mogul, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asserted that the opposition coalition has gained significant ground while the ruling party remains preoccupied with political manoeuvring.

In an interview with Arise News, Momodu revealed his perspective on Nigeria’s current political climate, stating that the APC’s hurried preparations for 2027 demonstrate their anxiety about the growing opposition unity.

“The ruling party is in a hurry to contest the 2027 elections, if possible, today,” Momodu observed, suggesting this urgency reflects their discomfort with the opposition’s progress.

The veteran journalist recounted his political journey, including his 2011 presidential bid, where he secured 26,000 votes nationwide, contrasting it with his experience in the PDP’s 2022 primaries.

He criticised the PDP’s internal conflicts following their 2023 election loss, noting how factional disputes paralysed the party’s operations. “All the meetings that are supposed to be held from time to time as a political party – none could hold,” Momodu lamented, explaining his decision to join the ADC.

Momodu argued that while the APC focuses on power retention, the opposition has shifted to an offensive strategy. “We have decided to outplay the APC in their own game,” he declared, claiming the ADC’s emergence has unsettled the ruling party. The publisher warned against underestimating the APC’s tactics but expressed confidence in the opposition’s ability to counter them.

“We’re going to play them with a game they do not understand,” Momodu stated, suggesting the opposition coalition has developed innovative strategies to challenge the ruling party’s dominance.

He concluded with optimism about the ADC’s prospects, asserting that attempts to destabilise the growing opposition movement would prove unsuccessful.
