Femi Oladele, the prime suspect in the brutal murder of two Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) students, has died under questionable circumstances while in police custody.
Known as “Tallex,” Oladele was the landlord of the victims, Andrew Eloho Okah, 25, and John Friday Abba, 19, both 200-level students in the Departments of History and International Studies and Economics, respectively.
Oladele was arrested alongside two other suspects for the kidnapping, robbery, rape, and murder of the students. The decomposing body of Okah was later found in a shallow grave near the Ondo-Ekiti border, while Abba’s remains are still being searched for.
During interrogation, Oladele reportedly confessed to orchestrating the crime, allegedly motivated by Okah’s perceived disrespect toward him.
However, shortly after his confession, Oladele developed a sudden and unexplained illness. Conflicting reports emerged about his death—some sources claimed he died in his cell, while police insisted he passed away in a hospital after being rushed there for treatment.
The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed his death on Friday, stating that Oladele had been in and out of medical care since his arrest.
The circumstances surrounding his death have raised suspicions, with some questioning whether foul play was involved. Meanwhile, the two other suspects, identified as Kola and Michael, remain in custody. Investigations revealed that they withdrew ₦800,000 from Abba’s account after the murder.
The case has sparked outrage, with AAUA students demanding transparency and threatening protests if their concerns are not addressed.
The university administration has condemned the killings, emphasising that no student should face violence while pursuing an education. As investigations continue, authorities assure the public that all involved will face justice, though Oladele’s death leaves lingering questions about accountability .
