Former APC chairman Abdullahi Ganduje in good health despite rumours

Recent reports suggesting that former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman and ex-Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, is in critical condition at a London hospital have been dismissed by close associates.

In an exclusive interview with journalists on Monday, Comrade Mohammed Garba, Ganduje’s Chief of Staff and former Kano State Commissioner for Information, clarified that the 75-year-old politician is in stable health despite minor age-related concerns.

Garba confirmed that Ganduje is currently in London but emphasised that he is not in any life-threatening condition. “He is fine. Of course, it is rare for someone of Ganduje’s age not to have some minor health concerns, but it is not true that he is in critical condition as people are claiming,” he stated.

He further explained that Ganduje had been in London since the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, which was why he could not attend the funeral.

“We spoke with him just last night, and there is no problem. Anyone can fall sick, but as far as I know, he is in stable health,” Garba added. He also noted that if Abdullahi Ganduje’s condition were serious, there would be no reason to conceal it, as supporters would be informed to offer prayers.

A family source, who spoke anonymously, also refuted the rumours, stating, “I have not spoken to him directly, but I have spoken with those who are with him over there, and there is nothing like what is being spread.”

Abdullahi Ganduje had resigned as APC National Chairman in 2023, citing health reasons, but his subsequent appointment as Chairman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) raised questions about the authenticity of his earlier claims. Some speculate that his resignation was politically motivated, possibly linked to efforts to reconcile with his rival, former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Despite the speculation, associates maintain that his current health situation is being misrepresented.
