The Speaker of Benue State House of Assembly, Hyacinth Dajoh, has reaffirmed the state’s determination to protect its ancestral lands from invaders during a visit to displaced Yelwata community members sheltering at the Ultra Modern International Market in Makurdi.

Addressing the displaced persons on Tuesday, Dajoh declared that no external force would succeed in claiming Benue lands, which he described as divine inheritance.

“Our land was given to us by God, and no power can take it away from us,” the Speaker asserted. He assured the displaced persons of the government’s commitment to their safe return and resettlement, expressing confidence that divine intervention would support these efforts.

Dajoh explained that the visit aimed to show solidarity with the victims and reassure them that measures were being taken to prevent future attacks.

The Speaker called on the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. James Iorpuu, to discharge his duties with integrity in managing the humanitarian crisis.

He warned that history would judge public officers by their conduct, stating that ethical service would bring lasting blessings while mismanagement of relief efforts would attract consequences.

“If you serve the displaced persons honestly without engaging in fraudulent practices, you will be rewarded even after leaving office,” Dajoh stated. “But if you deprive them of their entitlements, misfortune will follow you.

“The Speaker’s remarks underscored the government’s dual focus on security and humanitarian response as Benue continues to grapple with communal conflicts and displacement challenges. His visit highlighted the legislature’s oversight role in ensuring accountability in crisis management while boosting morale among affected communities.
