Vice President Kasshim Shettima recently commissioned a state-of-the-art library in Calabar, recently refurbished by Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu.

During the visit, Shettima also inaugurated two newly acquired aircraft for the state-owned Cally Air airline at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Calabar. The addition of the two aircraft brings the airline’s fleet to four, marking a significant boost to the state’s aviation sector.

Representing President Bola Tinubu at the event, Shettima commended the Cross River State government for its developmental strides. He praised Governor Otu for his commitment to improving infrastructure and expanding economic opportunities in the state.

Governor Otu expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for allowing the Vice President to attend the event, describing it as a testament to the federal government’s support for Cross River’s progress.

He highlighted that his administration is building on the legacies of his predecessors—Donald Duke, Liyel Imoke, and Ben Ayade—who each laid strong foundations in different sectors.

“Donald Duke championed tourism, Senator Imoke prioritised rural development, and Ayade focused on industrialisation,” Otu stated. “It was Governor Ayade who initiated the state’s aviation venture by purchasing the first two aircraft. Now, we are expanding on that vision.”

The governor emphasised that the new aircraft would enhance the state’s tourism potential and economic growth. He also revealed plans to acquire two more aircraft soon, aiming to establish Cross River as a dominant player in the Gulf of Guinea air route.

The developments, he noted, align with his administration’s broader agenda to drive investment, create jobs, and position the state as a key hub for commerce and tourism.
