The Taraba State Police Command has pledged full security preparedness for the upcoming Karim-Lamido 1 State House of Assembly bye-election scheduled for August 16, 2025.

Commissioner of Police Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin gave the assurance during a strategic meeting with the state’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) leadership on Wednesday at the Police Command Headquarters in Jalingo.

Addressing INEC Chairman Alhaji Umar Mukhtar Gajiram, CP Isokpan highlighted plans to deploy seasoned officers and sufficient operational assets to ensure election security.

She particularly noted the need for heightened vigilance given Karim-Lamido’s difficult terrain, emphasising strict compliance with security protocols. The police chief called for sustained coordination between INEC and all security agencies in the pre-election phase.

The closed-door meeting focused on enhancing inter-agency collaboration and fine-tuning security arrangements to guarantee a peaceful, credible electoral process.

INEC’s state chairman acknowledged the police’s critical role in safeguarding electoral integrity, describing the parley as crucial for developing proactive operational synergy. He stressed that all elections – including bye-elections, require a robust security presence to maintain order and public confidence.

Both institutions renewed their commitment to delivering a transparent, violence-free poll through close cooperation. The police command issued a stern warning to political actors and their supporters against any actions that could compromise the election’s credibility. Authorities vowed to take decisive action against individuals or groups attempting to disrupt the electoral process through unlawful means.

The security assurance comes as political activities intensify ahead of the crucial state assembly poll, with security agencies mobilising to prevent the violence and malpractice that have marred previous elections in some parts of the state. The police-INEC collaboration reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral security architecture.
