Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State visited several communities in Kauran Namoda Local Government Area on Wednesday, following a spate of violent attacks by bandits.

The visit came amid reports of escalating insecurity in the state, with the Zamfara Circle Community Initiative documenting 144 kidnappings, 24 deaths, and 16 injuries across various local government areas in recent weeks.

One of the most devastating incidents occurred in July when bandits reportedly killed 33 kidnapped victims in Banga town after collecting a ransom of N50 million. The attack left the community in mourning and heightened fears of further violence.

During his visit, Governor Lawal met with affected families and expressed his condolences, assuring them of the government’s commitment to restoring peace. He condemned the attacks, stating that the bandits deliberately targeted communities to spread fear and disrupt livelihoods. The governor urged residents to remain resilient and continue praying for peace while promising to intensify security operations across the state.

In addition to security measures, Governor Lawal pledged to improve infrastructure in the affected areas, including road networks, electricity, potable water, and mobile network services. These developments, he emphasised, would not only enhance the quality of life for residents but also support security efforts by improving communication and mobility.

The communities visited included Banga, Sakajiki, Kuryar Madaro, Maguru, and Tambarawa, all of which have suffered repeated attacks. The governor’s visit aimed to reassure residents of government support while assessing the extent of the damage caused by the bandits.

Governor Lawal’s administration has faced increasing pressure to address the security challenges in Zamfara, with many calling for more decisive action against banditry.

His latest visit underscores the urgency of the situation as the state continues to grapple with violence and displacement. Residents remain hopeful that the promised security reinforcements and developmental projects will bring much-needed relief to the troubled region.
