The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has issued a public disclaimer regarding the false incorporation of 247 companies falsely presented as registered entities.
In a notice released on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, the commission clarified that the listed firms were never duly registered as limited liability companies and have now been removed from its database.
The CAC emphasised that the purported Certificate of Incorporation (AC) numbers linked to these companies were never officially assigned. The commission urged the public to disregard any claims presenting these entities as legally recognised businesses, warning that such listings may be linked to fraudulent activities.
This clarification follows an internal review by the CAC to purge its records of falsely registered entities, reinforcing its commitment to maintaining an accurate and transparent corporate registry. The commission advised individuals and organisations to verify a company’s registration status through its official channels before engaging in any business transactions.
The CAC’s action aims to curb potential scams and protect stakeholders from dealing with illegitimate entities. Businesses and investors were reminded to exercise due diligence when interacting with unfamiliar companies to avoid legal and financial risks.
