Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has announced a donation of N100 million to the Nigerian Army University, Biu (NAUB), to support research and infrastructural development.

The governor made the announcement while receiving the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Lawan Buratai, and other principal officers at the Government House in Maiduguri.

Governor Zulum praised efforts to establish a legislative framework for the university, describing it as essential for its long-term sustainability. He recalled the state government’s previous support for the institution and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering a strong partnership for its growth.

In addition to the financial donation, Zulum revealed plans to provide scholarships for indigent students from all 27 local government areas of Borno to study at the university. He directed the Commissioner for Education to assess the institution’s capacity and determine the number of students that could be sponsored.

The governor also pledged support for the establishment of a College of Medical Sciences at NAUB to increase the number of doctors and healthcare workers in the state.

He stressed the importance of aligning academic programmes across Borno’s three federal universities—University of Maiduguri, Nigerian Army University Biu, and Federal University of Agriculture and Entrepreneurship Bama—with the state’s needs.

Vice Chancellor of Nigerian Army University, Professor Lawan Buratai expressed gratitude for the governor’s support and requested additional sponsorship for Borno indigenes studying engineering and technical courses. He also commended the ongoing construction of staff accommodation at the university.

In a separate meeting with the leadership of Biu Forum, Governor Zulum reiterated his administration’s commitment to equitable project distribution across the state.

He promised increased investments in security, education, and infrastructure to improve residents’ living standards. The National Chairman of the Forum, Alhaji Mustapha Mohammed, acknowledged over 90 development projects executed in Biu Emirate under Zulum’s leadership, including hospitals, schools, road networks, and housing estates.
