The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a strong condemnation of the physical assault inflicted upon a female Corps Member by operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group.

The incident occurred in the Oba community within the Idemili South Local Government Area of the state. In an official statement released by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the scheme described the attack as completely “unacceptable and dehumanising.” The statement emphasised that no possible justification could warrant such brutal treatment of a member of the service corps.

The NYSC management assured the public of its full support for the ongoing investigation being conducted by the Nigeria Police Force. It expressed confidence that this official probe would help uncover the full details of the event and ultimately secure justice for the assaulted Corps Member and any other aggrieved parties.

Furthermore, the scheme disclosed that it is taking administrative steps to provide comprehensive physiological and psychological support to the affected young woman, reiterating its unwavering commitment to the welfare and security of all Corps Members serving across Nigeria.

The viral video of the incident has prompted widespread reactions, including a testimony from a former Corps Member who served in Onitsha North LGA. Identified simply as Unity from Delta State, he recounted his own hostile experiences with the state’s vigilante operatives, whom he described as “naturally bittered and easily triggered.”

He shared that despite always wearing his Corper cap and carrying his ID, he faced repeated aggression from the group and had to rely on his own stubbornness and wit to avoid physical confrontations. He ended his account by expressing solidarity with the victim, hoping she gets justice.

The Anambra State Government has announced it is taking initial steps to address the incident amid growing public demands for accountability.
