Nigeria Police deny viral reports declaring actress Iyabo Ojo wanted

The Nigeria Police Force has officially denied viral social media reports that claimed actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo had been declared wanted for questioning.

A bulletin circulating widely online had featured the actress’s photograph alongside the inscription ‘special police wanted’ and alleged that a reward was being offered for information leading to her arrest.

Many social media users had speculated that the notice might be connected to the ongoing investigation into the death of singer Mohbad or other personal matters.

In a formal statement issued on Thursday, the police force firmly refuted these claims, emphasising that the bulletin did not originate from any official police source.

The NPF labelled the report as entirely false and misleading, clarifying that there is no legitimate warrant or wanted notice issued for the actress by the Office of the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit or any other department within the force.

The police urged members of the public to exercise caution and verify information strictly through official channels before sharing or believing such content. This incident highlights the continuing challenge of misinformation on social media platforms, where unverified claims can quickly gain traction.

The force reminded citizens that all official communications regarding investigations or wanted persons are properly disseminated through recognised media outlets and the police’s verified official accounts, not through unauthorised online posters.
