Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of eight personnel from the agency.
The officers were ambushed and killed by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers this past Friday in Edo State.
In an official statement released by the National Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Babawale, the Commandant General expressed his profound grief and has directed the Edo State Commandant and other senior management staff to immediately visit and offer condolences to the families of the fallen operatives. Prof. Audi has also instructed the state command to arrange for the burial of the deceased with full honours, recognising their ultimate sacrifice made in the line of duty.
The NSCDC boss eulogised the labour, commitment, and patriotism demonstrated by the personnel, promising that their service would never be forgotten. He further assured that the Corps would cover all medical expenses for officers currently in intensive care, ensuring they receive the best possible treatment for a speedy recovery.
Providing clarity on the incident, the Commandant General detailed that a gang of armed kidnappers launched a grievous attack against NSCDC operatives assigned to protect a BUA Cement Company in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area. The operatives, who were providing security for Chinese expatriates, were ambushed during a routine patrol. The attack resulted in eight fatalities, four seriously injured personnel, one expatriate abducted, and four others successfully rescued.
Prof. Audi emphatically stated that this tragic event would not deter the Corps from discharging its statutory mandate of protecting critical national assets and infrastructure. He also urged the public to disregard sensationalized reports, reaffirming his unwavering commitment to the welfare and safety of his officers and men. He concluded by appreciating the collaborative efforts of other security agencies in combing the kidnappers’ hideout to rescue the abducted expatriate and bring the perpetrators to justice.
