Burna Boy vents as he tenders apology in a candid note to fans after a recent incident at his show stirred controversy online. The award-winning Nigerian singer made headlines when he told a fan to leave his concert for sleeping, a moment that quickly went viral and drew mixed reactions.

In a now-deleted Instagram story, the Grammy winner explained that he had only been joking around with his band and that the public misunderstood the moment as him disrespecting his fans. He said people spun the situation into something it wasn’t, insisting he never looks down on those who genuinely support him.

Burna Boy shared that he is fighting his own private battles and has never come online to seek pity. According to him, he returns love and respect to anyone who shows him the same. Still, he apologised for how the moment came across, even though he believes his intentions were clear.

He expressed frustration that people ignore the good he does but are quick to spread negativity the moment they think he has slipped. He said people who never acknowledged him suddenly became vocal critics, writing long takes about him based on a misunderstanding.

In his words:

I was joking around with my band about something else. You spun it as usual, saying ‘Burna Boy doesn’t love his fans’. If you hate me so much, either kill me or leave me alone.
I’m fighting my own battles. I never come here looking for pity.
I love those who love me and respect those who respect me.
Free Sudan, Free Congo, Free Nigeria.
I sincerely apologise.
If I’m wrong, I’m not always right, but I feel right about this.
Anyway, I’m just human.
They never post the good I do, but they go wild when they think I’ve messed up. People who never acknowledged me before are suddenly posting think pieces about me.
Everybody on the internet is perfect except Burna Boy.”

This isn’t the first time Burna Boy has spoken openly about how people react to him. Only weeks ago, he declared that he had more accomplishments than his colleagues and boasted about his rap skills. He also advised people with opponents to take their battles to court, saying the streets aren’t what they used to be and that everyone is now basically a civilian.

The singer recently reflected on the changes in his personality, admitting that the new version of himself sometimes misses the old version. According to him, the old Burna would never understand why the new him isn’t angry all the time.
