Abuja Electricity Distribution Company announces blackouts in multiple areas due to technical faults

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has announced power outages in several parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), attributing the disruptions to technical faults.

In a notice posted on its X account on Tuesday, the Disco confirmed that areas including Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Quarters, Adamu Alero, Babagana Kinigbe, Nasir El-Rufai and environs, and Asokoro are currently experiencing blackouts.

The company stated that its technical team is working to resolve the issue and restore the supply as soon as possible.

This latest outage follows an earlier announcement by AEDC extending power interruptions in other parts of Abuja from June 30 to July 31, between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm daily.

The extended disruption is linked to the ongoing construction of a dedicated 33-kilovolt feeder to the Africa Medical Centre of Excellence by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

Affected areas include Apo Mechanics, Waru, Apo Primary, Lokogoma, Kabusa, Galadimawa, Trademore Estate, CBN Quarters, El-Rufai Estate, Metro City, Brains & Hammers (behind Shoprite), Sunny Vale Estate, Pleasant Estate, NMA Estate, Yayale Estate, Super Cell Estate, Gudu, and Abuja Investment Estate.

The frequent outages in Abuja have become a recurring issue, with AEDC often citing technical faults, maintenance work, or infrastructure upgrades as the cause.

While the company assures customers of swift resolutions, prolonged disruptions continue to inconvenience residents and businesses.

Meanwhile, other parts of the FCT remain unaffected, highlighting the uneven distribution of power supply across the capital.

AEDC has urged affected customers to remain patient as repairs to technical faults are underway, though no specific timeline has been provided for full restoration in the latest outage zones.
