Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has established committees to address escalating insecurity in the country’s northern region.
The committees were set up by a resolution passed at the ACF’s Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting on September 4, 2024.
According to a statement issued by the ACF’s national press secretary, Professor Tukur Muhammad-Baba, the Unity, Peace, and Reconciliation Committee, led by Alhaji (Dr.) Yayale Ahmed, has been tasked with developing practical methods to promote harmony and discussion among Northern communities.
He explained that the idea is motivated by worries about the region’s deteriorating inter-group relations, which have impacted peaceful coexistence and growth.
He stated that Lt. General Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), former Chief of Army Staff, leads the second group that focuses on security.
ACF’s national press secretary said:
“This group is tasked with devising actionable solutions to address the region’s relentless insecurity, which has continued to devastate lives and livelihoods.
“Alhaji Mohammed D. Abubakar, a former Inspector General of Police, serves as the committee’s deputy.”
He stated that the committees were launched in Abuja on September 30 and October 1 by Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu and Wazirin Dutse.
According to the ACF Publicity Secretary, they were expected to submit their findings by mid-November for evaluation by the ACF, which would then work with Northern state governors and federal agencies to ensure the suggestions were executed.
