The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised serious concerns regarding the initial data from the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) pre-registration exercise released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The party has described the figures as statistically implausible and has called for an immediate and thorough investigation to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC highlighted specific anomalies that it finds alarming. The party pointed to the case of Osun State, which reportedly recorded 393,269 pre-registrations in a single week.
This figure is notably higher than the 275,815 new voters added in the state over the entire four-year period from 2019 to 2023. The ADC argued that this surge defies logical explanation, especially when considering that the total number of votes cast in the state’s highly mobilised 2022 gubernatorial election was 823,124.
The party further expressed alarm at the disproportionate regional distribution of the registrations. According to the data, the South-West geopolitical zone accounted for 67% of the national total with 848,359 registrations.
In stark contrast, the entire South-East region recorded a mere 1,998 pre-registrations. A combination of just three states—Osun, Lagos, and Ogun, made up over 54% of all registrations, while five other states barely registered 4,153 individuals combined.
The ADC warned that these discrepancies suggest either a significant technical glitch in INEC’s digital system or the more troubling possibility of deliberate data manipulation.
The party insists that a compromised voter register poses a direct threat to the credibility of future elections, including the 2027 general elections. It has called on INEC to conduct a forensic audit of the data and to publicly release detailed breakdowns, including server logs and regional access reports. The ADC also urged civil society groups, international observers, and other political parties to join in demanding transparency and accountability from the electoral body to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy.
