Sivasspor and Super Eagles forward, Ahmed Musa, expressed confidence in the Nigerian football team’s deserving claim to the AFCON 2023 trophy. Musa, who holds the record for the most goals at the World Cup Finals by a Nigerian, emphasized the importance of securing their fourth AFCON title against the hosts, Ivory Coast.
While Musa is yet to play in Ivory Coast, his influence in the squad has been highlighted by coach Alex Iwobi. Musa, along with Kenneth Omeruo, stands as one of the two players to have previously won AFCON with the Super Eagles during the 2013 edition in South Africa.
In his pre-match conference ahead of the AFCON 2023 final, Musa reflected on the tournament, stating, “For me, I think this is one of my best AFCON tournaments. It has had a lot of surprises from the beginning up till the very end. The most important thing is to win the game tomorrow. It is more important for us Nigerians. We deserve it from the very first day, so, we’re going out to give our very best.”
Regarding changes in Ivory Coast’s side, Musa mentioned, “I don’t think there’s anything new about them, it’s just a few tactical and personality changes. For us, we just have to look back at the game we played against them, see what they changed and see what we can do with that.”
If Nigeria secures victory in the AFCON 2023 final, Musa and Omeruo would make history as the first-ever Super Eagles players to win AFCON twice.
