A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to deploy drones and advanced surveillance technology to monitor Nigeria’s borders more effectively.
The chieftain emphasised that strengthening border security is crucial to curbing illegal activities such as smuggling, illegal immigration, and the influx of arms.
The APC leader highlighted that Nigeria’s vast and porous borders remain a significant challenge for security agencies, making it difficult to prevent unauthorised movements.
By deploying drones, the government could enhance real-time monitoring, improve intelligence gathering, and respond swiftly to security threats. The use of modern technology, the chieftain argued, would complement the efforts of border patrol agents and reduce the reliance on manual surveillance methods.
Additionally, the call for drone deployment aligns with the federal government’s broader agenda to leverage technology in addressing national security concerns.
The APC chieftain noted that other countries have successfully used drones to secure their borders, and Nigeria should adopt similar measures to protect its territorial integrity.
The recommendation comes amid growing concerns over security challenges, including banditry, terrorism, and cross-border crimes. The chieftain urged the Tinubu administration to prioritise investment in security infrastructure, stressing that a well-monitored border would significantly reduce criminal activities and promote economic stability.
