The Bauchi State Teachers Service Commission has sanctioned two education officials for misconduct, demoting Malam Musa Ahmed, Principal of Government Day Secondary School, Kirfi, and Malam Adamu Shehu, a Senior Master, following their unauthorised sale of school property.
The commission’s decision was announced in a statement by Malam Dahiru Adamu, the commission’s Information Officer, on Thursday in Bauchi.
According to the statement, the disciplinary action was taken after a thorough investigation by a four-member committee established by the commission.
The committee found the two educators guilty of illegally selling 32 scrapped student beds, nine large aluminium pots, and roofing sheets belonging to the school without obtaining approval from the State Ministry of Education.
The overseeing Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Garba Bashe, confirmed that the investigation established the officers’ culpability.
As a result, the commission approved their demotion by one grade level, and they will be reassigned to other schools as classroom teachers. Additionally, the officers have been directed to refund the sum of N597,000, representing the value of the sold items.
The committee also recommended that the principal pay N72,000 to settle outstanding allowances owed to casual workers at the school. The commission reiterated its commitment to working with security agencies to recover the disposed school properties and ensure accountability in the education sector.
This disciplinary measure underscores the commission’s zero-tolerance policy for misconduct among education officials and its dedication to maintaining integrity within Bauchi State’s school system. The action serves as a warning to other staff against violating established protocols in the management of public school resources.
