Former Senate President, David Mark, has condemned the recent wave of violent attacks by suspected armed herdsmen on several communities across Benue State, describing the incidents as senseless and deeply troubling.
In a statement released by his media aide, Paul Mumeh, Mark expressed concern over the continued killings and widespread destruction of property, reportedly amounting to billions of naira in damages.
The affected areas include Otukpo, Agatu, Apa, Ohimini, Okpokwu, Ado, Ogbadibo, Gwer-West, Gwer-East, Katsina-Ala, Logo, and Ukum local government areas.
He cited a recent attack in Gwer-West that led to youth protests, as well as another deadly assault in Otukpo where lives were lost and some residents abducted.
While acknowledging efforts by security operatives, Mark welcomed reports that some suspects had been apprehended. “It is heartwarming that some of the beasts involved in the dastardly acts have been apprehended by security agents,” he said.
He called for a comprehensive investigation to ensure swift and thorough justice. “All those immediately and remotely connected with these killings must face the full wrath of the law,” he stressed.
Mark urged communities to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely information to help prevent further attacks.
