In the late hours of Sunday, May 11, 2025, suspected Fulani herdsmen launched a deadly assault on Adógó settlement in the Mbakundu Kindred of Tombo, located in the Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State. The attack resulted in the deaths of at least six individuals.

Local sources reported that the attackers arrived around 11:00 p.m., armed with automatic weapons. Taking advantage of the night, they moved from house to house, shooting at residents and attacking them with machetes.

The violence continued for several hours without any immediate intervention from security forces, leaving the community defenceless from the suspected herdsmen.

One of the community members, Haakyav Tombu Peter, shared a video on his official Facebook page, expressing his grief over the incident and lamenting the lack of a timely security response. As of Monday morning, six bodies had been recovered and taken to the Community Health Clinic in Adógó.

The victims identified so far include Ansambe Akpen, Shina Ayom Akpen, Bade Jam Ata, Shiekuma Kpebee, and Sughter Avindigh Taku. The identity of the sixth victim remains unknown. Community members have expressed their anger and frustration over the recurring violence and the perceived neglect by security agencies.

Attempts to get a statement from the Benue State Police Command on the suspected herdsmen attack have been unsuccessful, as calls to the spokesperson’s mobile phone went unanswered.
