Senator Shehu Sani, a former legislator and social critic, has voiced his unhappiness with how political leaders plunder the national budget.
Sani said that a few persons in government positions were taking billions of naira on a daily basis, while the education sector suffered.
He said this after charges of money mismanagement at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development.
Ex-minister Sadiya Umar-Farouq and now-suspended Minister Betta Edu were questioned about the subject by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives.
Sani bemoaned the fact that tuition prices were “callously” hiked in public universities and polytechnics because “there is no money to fund public tertiary education,” while billions of naira were stolen by a few individuals.
He wrote:
“Every day new revelations of billions stolen by few individuals; and Tuition fees are callously increased in our public universities and polytechnics because “there is no money to fund public tertiary education”.
