Controversial personality Blessing Nkiruka Okoro, widely known as Blessing CEO, has sparked debate by calling for the ban of betting platforms in Nigeria.
The self-proclaimed relationship expert revealed that several betting companies had approached her with lucrative offers that could afford her a new car, but she rejected them due to the negative impact she believes these platforms have on society.
Blessing CEO criticized the tactics of betting platforms, accusing them of exploiting consumers’ trust and abandoning them in the end. She labeled those who engage in betting as “lazy youths” and took a jab at fellow celebrities who promote these platforms, accusing them of misleading their followers and wasting their earnings. She urged these influencers to consider the future of hardworking individuals who are misled by such endorsements.
Additionally, Blessing CEO expressed her concerns about the moral implications for her growing sons and emphasized the importance of representing brands that align with her values. She called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ban betting platforms, arguing that they are illegitimate businesses that foster fraud and theft in society.
Make government ban betting platforms… It has rendered a lot of our young youth and old people useless. Make government ban am. I don’t regard any celebrity that influences for them,” she stated.
Previously, Blessing CEO faced legal troubles when the Federal High Court in Lagos remanded her for alleged cyber-bullying. She was arraigned on a six-count charge, including libel and exhibiting uncensored movies. The charges stemmed from her Instagram activity, where she allegedly damaged the reputations of Folashade Samuels and the late Bimbo Ogbonna. Justice Yelim Bogoro ordered her to remain in custody until May 30 for a bail hearing.
