Jamie Carragher has said Liverpool and Arsenal are still fighting to finish in second place in the Premier League despite Manchester City’s recent struggles.
City opened the season with 18 points from a possible 18, before suffering back-to-back losses against Wolves and Arsenal.
This has left the Gunners and Tottenham joint-top with 20 points, two clear of Pep Guardiola’s men.
Liverpool could however go top as they welcome Everton in the Merseyside Derby in Saturday’s early kick-off.
But Carragher thinks the battle at the top will only be competitive if City continue their poor form
He told the Telegraph:
“The only way Liverpool – or anyone else – can win the Premier League is if Manchester City wobble.
“City’s recent defeats by Wolverhampton Wanderers and Arsenal have given the rest a glimmer of hope.
“If Liverpool are in a position to take advantage, that is beyond the pre-season expectations. Arsenal are considered the most likely to pip City. Is Arsenal better than Liverpool? We will know by Christmas.”
