The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has visited Benue State in the wake of recent violent attacks that left several dead and many displaced.

The visit aimed to assess the security situation firsthand and reassure residents of the military’s commitment to restoring peace in the troubled region.

During his tour, the CDS met with state officials, security commanders, and community leaders to discuss strategies for preventing further violence.

Benue has experienced a surge in attacks, particularly in rural communities, where clashes between armed herdsmen and farmers have escalated.

The recent bloodshed has heightened fears among residents, many of whom have fled their homes for safety.

General Musa condemned the violence, describing it as unacceptable and vowing that the armed forces would intensify operations to apprehend perpetrators and secure affected areas.

Governor Hyacinth Alia, who received the defence chief, expressed gratitude for the military’s intervention but called for stronger measures to end the cycle of attacks.

He emphasised the need for improved intelligence gathering and quicker response times to protect vulnerable communities.

The governor also appealed for humanitarian support for displaced families, many of whom are taking refuge in makeshift camps.

During his visit, General Musa assured the people of Benue that the military would work closely with other security agencies to address the root causes of the conflict.

He urged communities to cooperate with security forces by providing timely information on suspicious activities.

The CDS also inspected troops deployed in the state, encouraging them to remain vigilant and professional in their duties.

The visit comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, where communal clashes and banditry continue to threaten lives and livelihoods. Nigerians hope the military’s renewed focus on Benue will bring much-needed stability to the region.
