Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has appealed to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to prioritize the revival of abandoned projects across the state.
The governor made the plea during a meeting with NDDC officials in Calabar, where he emphasised the urgent need to complete critical infrastructure projects that have remained unfinished for years.
Governor Otu specifically highlighted several road construction projects, water schemes, and electrification initiatives that were initiated by the NDDC but left incomplete, leaving communities without essential services.
He stressed that completing these projects would significantly improve living standards and boost economic activities in the affected areas. The governor also pledged his administration’s willingness to collaborate with the NDDC to ensure smooth project execution and proper monitoring.
NDDC representatives acknowledged the concerns raised and assured the governor that the commission would review all abandoned projects in Cross River State. They noted that funding challenges and contractual issues had contributed to delays in the past but promised to work towards resolving these obstacles.
Residents and community leaders have welcomed the governor’s intervention, expressing hope that the NDDC will now take concrete action. Many of the stalled projects were originally designed to address pressing developmental needs in rural and urban areas across the state.
Governor Otu’s appeal aligns with broader calls for the NDDC to fulfill its mandate of driving sustainable development in Nigeria’s Niger Delta region. The state government has vowed to maintain pressure on the commission until visible progress is achieved.
