Nigerian skitmaker and actor Abiola AbdulGagar, popularly known as Cute Abiola, is paying tribute to the late singer Ilerioluwa Promise, known as Mohbad, as he marks one year since his tragic passing.
In an Instagram post, Cute Abiola shared a video of Mohbad at an event, reflecting on the time that has passed since the singer’s untimely death on September 12, 2023. Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley’s record label, died under mysterious circumstances at the age of 27. Following his death, viral videos revealed him being bullied by his former boss and associates.
On September 12, 2024, Cute Abiola remembered the singer with a simple yet poignant message:
A year ago, today. Rest on Legend.”
In addition to Cute Abiola’s tribute, fans flooded the comment section with their reactions, expressing how much Mohbad is missed.

When news of Mohbad’s death broke last year, Cute Abiola recounted their last moments together. The comedian revealed that Mohbad had agreed to feature in one of his projects and was on the verge of buying a Range Rover Velar before his sudden demise. Expressing his pain, Cute Abiola acknowledged that no one can question God’s plans.
Last month, ahead of the one-year remembrance, actor Yomi Fabiyi announced a solidarity assembly to demand justice for Mohbad. The gathering was held in front of The High Court (Coroner Inquest) in Ikorodu, Lagos, on September 11, 2024.
Mohbad’s death continues to raise questions, but his legacy has grown. American rapper Meek Mill praised Nigerians for their dedication to seeking justice for the late singer. Mohbad’s popularity has surged posthumously, with three of his songs landing in the Billboard Top 10. He became the first African artist without a full album to achieve this milestone, cementing his place in history.
