A heartwarming and memorable reunion took place at the recent Trace Music Awards in Rwanda, featuring two prominent Nigerian music icons, Davido and D’Banj. In a viral video from the event, D’Banj enthusiastically greeted Davido, affectionately addressing him as “Baba Ibeji,” a term that translates to “father of twins.”
The nickname holds particular significance as it coincides with the recent celebration of twins arriving in Davido and Chioma’s family, an occasion that has been met with widespread congratulations and excitement.
Despite the joy surrounding the twins’ arrival, there were some controversies related to Davido’s growing family. Media personality Kemi Olunloyo shared her belief that the twins were born through in-vitro fertilization (IVF), not naturally. She also alleged that Chioma had a caesarean section during childbirth. In addition, Kemi Olunloyo claimed that, as a sign of his affection, Davido had gifted Chioma a house in Atlanta, although these claims have not been independently verified.
Both Davido and D’Banj have faced the painful loss of a child in the past, connecting them through the grief that Davido experienced before the joy of welcoming his twins. D’Banj, who endured a similar heartbreaking experience, reached out to Davido during his difficult period. Their reunion at the Trace Music Awards in Rwanda was a heartening moment for all who witnessed it.
The awards ceremony itself showcased remarkable musical talents. Davido secured the “Best Collaboration” award for his partnership with Musa Keys. Burna Boy, known for his unique musical style, earned the “Album of the Year” award. Additionally, Rema, the crooner behind “Calm Down,” was recognized with the “Best Global Artist” award at the Trace Music Awards show.
