The sum of N10 billion has been authorised by the Delta State Executive Council (SEC) as a social investment to support palliatives for the underprivileged, persons with disabilities, widows, women, young people, and elderly persons in the state.

A 14-man Flood Disaster Management Committee was also established in order to lessen the impact of floods on the state.

This was one of the decisions made during the first State Executive Council meeting, which was presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Wednesday in Asaba.

Comrade Reuben Izeze, State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), told journalists after the meeting that the governor will transmit it to the State House of Assembly for approval on the distribution of palliatives.

According to him, Exco approved the building of many highways as part of the M.O.R.E. Agenda of the Governor Oborevwori-led government. He said that all senatorial districts were served by the roads, which were essential for improving the economic standing of the populace.

The payment of the 2023 counterpart budget for the Universal Basic Education Programme and for the state’s hosting of the 7th National Youth Games was also approved by Exco.

Sonny Ekedayen, the commissioner for economic planning, said Exco approved N167 billion as a 2023 supplemental budget.

He added that Exco also approved an N40 billion credit facility offer to the state’s 25 local government councils to cover a significant portion of unpaid retirement entitlements for local government retirees.
