Brig Gen Y.D. Ahmed, the Director General National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has warned Corps members not to travel at night. In his Easter message to members of the service, he advised them to be safe and security conscious wherever they find themselves.
General Ahmed congratulated the corps members and wished them a happy Easter in a message signed by NYSC’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa.
He said –
“Gentlemen Corps Members, it is my pleasure to felicitate with you as we commemorate and imbibe the significance of Easter in our national life.
“As we reflect on the lessons of Easter, I enjoin you all to sustain the spirit of harmony, tolerance, sacrifice, and understanding while discharging your responsibilities in furtherance of the Nigerian Project.
“Always remember to uphold the Scheme’s core values of patriotism, integrity, efficiency, commitment and teamwork throughout the service year and beyond and continually pray for the unity and progress of our dear nation, Nigeria.
“As we look forward towards unveiling the activities outlined for the 50th anniversary of NYSC in the weeks ahead. We must use this period of Easter to appreciate God for the numerous successes of the Scheme in the last five decades and further pray for a secure and fruitful future for the scheme.
“If you are permitted to travel for the celebration, kindly note that it is safe for you not to travel in the night in order not to endanger yourself. If your journey is getting late into the night, break your journey into two and pass the night in any NYSC formation or nearby military barrack.
“While assuring you of my commitment to your welfare and security, there is no doubt, that Government at all levels and Nigerians from all walks of life appreciate your contributions in expanding the frontiers of national development through our noble scheme NYSC.”
