Dickson Ahonsi and Edosa Enowoghomenma, Edo’s local government chairman of Owan West and Ovia South-West Local Government Areas, respectively, have decamped to the All Progressives Congress, or APC, most likely to escape being impeached by their councils’ legislative arms.

Five council members defected with Dickson Ahonsi in Owan West, while eight council members, including the chairman of the Ovia South-West Council and Leader of the House Nosakhare Edobor, also did so.

The Owan West chairman and council members defected to the party’s state secretariat in Benin City, where they were welcomed by Edo APC State Secretary Lawrence Okah, while the chairman of Ovia South-West Local Government defected to the APC party secretariat in the area and was greeted by Emmanuel Ogbomo, the party chairman for the local government.

The Chairman of the APC in Ovia South-West, Emmanuel Ogbomo, welcomed the defectors and promised them they would not regret joining the state’s dominant party.

He said:

“There is nothing new about what you are doing today. I was in the PDP for 20 years before I left, and now I am the Local Government Area Chairman of the party, which means that in APC, everybody is treated equally, and you will not regret your action. We will join to protect you and your office.”
