Henry Marah Zachariah, the chairman of the Kaduna State House Committee on Information, has revealed certain details about the El-Rufai administration’s financial operations.
The Kaduna State House of Assembly on Tuesday established a 13-member committee to investigate financial transactions, loans, grants, and other project implementations from 2015 to 2023 under former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s administration.
Honourable Mugu Yusuf, Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts and Deputy Minority Whip, who moved the motion, stated that the public needed to know what happened during that time, and that the House also directed the committee to invite notable figures who served during that time, including contractors, to explain how the loans and grants received during the period under review were spent.
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai criticised on Wednesday the State House of Assembly’s acceptance of an ad hoc committee report requesting an investigation of his state’s governance from May 2015 to May 2023.
El-Rufai called it a “politically motivated hatchet job,” claiming he served with honesty.
However, in an interview with Channels on Wednesday evening, Zachariah stated that N423 billion was removed from the state account with no accompanying documents.
He said:
”The N423 billion were monies taken from the purse of the government without any activity attached to it.”
“The Commissioner for Finance and Accountant General withdrew N30 billion. They withdrew N1.4 trillion from the state government account.”
