The United States Embassy in Abuja and its Consulate General in Lagos will be temporarily closed on Monday, September 1, 2025.

This scheduled closure is in observance of Labour Day, a significant federal holiday in the United States dedicated to honouring the contributions and achievements of American workers.

In an official statement released in advance of the holiday, the U.S. Mission confirmed that all normal operations will be suspended for the day. This means that routine consular services, including visa processing and American citizen services, will be unavailable to the public during this time.

The diplomatic mission emphasized that its doors will be closed to the public for the entirety of the holiday Monday.

For American citizens or others facing genuine emergencies during this period, the mission advised consulting its official website.

The website provides detailed guidance and the necessary contact information for urgent situations requiring immediate assistance. The embassy closure is a standard annual procedure, allowing U.S. diplomatic staff to commemorate the national holiday.

Normal business hours and the full range of consular and diplomatic services are scheduled to resume without delay on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. The announcement serves as a reminder for individuals with planned business at either location to adjust their schedules accordingly to avoid any inconvenience.
